A message from the mayor as the Obon is approaching (August 11th , 2020)
As of today, August 11th there a no new confirmed corona cases in Kobayashi City. However, the prefectural government has issued an emergency warning as infections are on the rise. Furthermore, restaurants offering entertainment are requested to stay closed, other shops offering food and drink are to shorten their business hours. People are asked to refrain from returning home for Obon and from traveling outside the prefecture.
As Obon is drawing nearer I believe you will come into contact with people returning home for the holiday, which often includes eating and drinking together. I am asking you to avoid get-togethers with many people and to always bear the rules of the “New normal" in mind when engaging in social events. Also be sure to thoroughly exercise preventive measures, especially where elderly people or people suffering from underlying diseases are involved.
It is very unfortunate that this year's Obon must take place under these extraordinary circumstances. Your cooperation and understanding is essential to quicken the process of returning to normal again.
